Film director Pascal Amanfo has strongly criticised a Ghanaian television station for allegedly broadcasting his newly released movie just hours after it premiered on YouTube.

According to Amanfo, the film was officially released online at 11:00 a.m., but by 6:00 p.m. the same day, the TV station had already aired it without permission.

The director, visibly frustrated, described the incident as a major setback for an industry he says is already “struggling to breathe.”

He explained that convincing investors to support Ghanaian productions has become increasingly difficult, and acts of piracy only worsen the crisis.

Amanfo revealed that the film in question was funded by a Nigerian colleague he personally persuaded to invest in Ghana’s “ailing, almost comatose” movie industry.

For the project to be pirated within hours, he noted, was not only disrespectful but also financially damaging to everyone involved.

Pascal Amanfo stressed that people often underestimate the cost and sacrifice behind each production, adding that such behaviour undermines efforts to revive the industry and attract meaningful investment.

He vowed to pursue the matter while issuing a stern warning to other media platforms.
