Police in the Western Central Region say the two women who were brutally assaulted in a now-viral video from Wassa Dawurampong had been accused of stealing money from a gold-buying shop.
In a statement, the police indicated that the suspects believed the two victims had stolen cash, a claim that allegedly triggered the violent attack captured on video.
The arrest of ten suspects followed an operation led by the Ghana Police Service’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team in collaboration with the Western Central Police Command.
Among the suspects, three — Eric Donkor (also known as “Killer Block”), 32; Yaw Gyimah, 29; and Edmond Nartey, 24 — were seen in the video shaving the women’s scalps with a razor.
One key suspect, Tawiah Awaga, remains at large, and police say efforts are being intensified to locate him.
Seven additional individuals were also arrested for aiding and abetting the assault.
Police have assured the public that the suspects will be screened and the main perpetrators will be arraigned soon. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to find the victims and provide them with the necessary medical care.
Authorities have cautioned against acts of vigilantism, urging residents to allow due process to take its course and to provide any relevant information to the appropriate security agencies.
