The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has assured that the NDC-led government is addressing what he described as the “mess” inherited from the former Akufo-Addo administration, while simultaneously creating jobs and restoring economic stability.

Speaking in Parliament during the final leadership debate on the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy on Thursday, November 27, Mr Ayariga highlighted gains across key sectors, including energy, mining, manufacturing, roads, and agriculture.

He noted that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has seen significant improvements in revenue mobilisation and operational efficiency under President Mahama.

The Majority Leader further indicated that government initiatives, including the PUSH policy, are expected to create over 400,000 jobs.

Mr Ayariga described the 2026 Budget as a decisive turning point in Ghana’s economic management, asserting that the country has moved from what he called a period of “criminal handling” of the economy to one of discipline and prudence in just one year.

“This is a budget that will generate growth. This is a budget that reflects prudent management of the resources of this economy to achieve growth objectives,” he said.
“In one year, we have shifted gears from criminal economic handling to prudence. Indeed, the President has had cause to describe the situation we met in this country as a crime scene.”

He maintained that the budget lays a strong foundation for economic recovery, job creation, and sustained growth.
