The mother of the 8-year-old girl who lost her life in the Dansoman market fire has broken her silence, recounting the painful moments leading up to the tragedy.

Priscilla was found burnt to death after fire swept through parts of the market on Wednesday.

According to her mother, the little girl had complained of hunger earlier in the afternoon. With no one else at home and concerned about insecurity in the area, she locked Priscilla inside their room before briefly stepping out to buy food.

While at the market, she heard frantic shouts that their stretch of houses was engulfed in flames.

Rushing back, she found the area consumed by fire, with no safe access to reach her daughter. Fire personnel later retrieved Priscilla’s charred remains and transferred her body to the morgue.

The fire destroyed multiple wooden structures and metallic containers and was battled for hours.

The incident drew the attention of fire service commanders and the MP for Ablekuma West, prompting authorities to call for stricter public cooperation during emergencies after reporting obstructions at the scene.

Investigators are yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
