The Chief Executive Officer of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, has reaffirmed the authority’s role in regulating prices and ensuring quality standards for key tree crops in Ghana, including coconut, shea, rubber, oil palm, mango, and cashew.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Okrah explained that while these crops are cultivated by individuals, the government supports farmers with improved seedlings, fertilizers, and technical assistance. After production, the TCDA collaborates with farmers and stakeholders to determine fair prices.
“Price determination is the mandate of the TCDA. We regulate both prices and quality, and everyone involved must be licensed by the Authority,” he stated.
He added that the TCDA registers farmers, aggregators, traders, exporters, and processors, ensuring a smooth production chain and compliance with legal standards across the sector.
“We fix the farmgate price and make sure production proceeds smoothly,” he emphasised.
Dr. Okrah assured that the Authority remains committed to protecting farmers’ interests and promoting growth in Ghana’s tree crops industry.
