Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has praised the appointment of football legend Abedi Ayew Pele to the 11-member committee tasked with overseeing the country’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Inaugurated on Wednesday, November 26, the committee will guide Ghana’s roadmap to next year’s tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Debrah emphasized that Abedi Pele’s appointment brings practical expertise, not just symbolic value.

“We are not only trying to operate in abstract. If for nothing else, he [Abedi Pele] has played on the international platform and has the experience to share on how best we can present our country on the global stage,” he said.

Ghana enters the 2026 World Cup with renewed determination after failing to progress from the group stage in Qatar. The four-time African champions, seeded in Pot 4, will learn their group-stage opponents on December 5.
