Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has called on the newly inaugurated 11-member committee overseeing the nation’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to operate with accountability and a strong sense of national purpose.
The committee, inaugurated on Wednesday, November 26, is chaired by Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe, with Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa serving as deputy.
“This oversight committee must lead with accountability, speed, and national consciousness; the time for scattered effort is over,” Mr. Debrah said.
He added: “We cannot afford to enter 2026 with the mindset of 2014 or 2010. Let us correct what must be corrected and amplify what must be built. Let us lead with clarity; act with urgency; and project Ghana with discipline and pride.”
Other members include Sports Minister Kofi Adams, Minister for Youth Development George Opare, Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Yusif Jajah, Deputy Finance Minister Ampem Nyarkoh, and Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman Kurt Okraku.
Additional appointees are Deputy National Security Coordinator Elizabeth Yankah, former football star Abedi Pele, and Sports Ministry Chief Director Wilhelmina Asamoah. A representative from the private sector will also join the team.
After a group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Black Stars are determined to progress beyond the initial phase in 2026. Ghana will learn its group-stage opponents on December 5.
