Veteran gospel musician Edward Akwasi Boateng has revealed that his estranged wife has taken legal action against him, seeking 50% ownership of a house he claims to have built through his decades-long music career.
The case, currently before the Donyina Court, was filed by Genevieve Osei Boateng, whom he married in 1999 and with whom he has four children.
According to Akwasi Boateng, the couple has been estranged for nearly five years, yet his ex-wife now claims that the property was constructed shortly after their marriage, making her entitled to half.
He says the claim has left him stunned, as the house was funded entirely through his earnings as a musician. Throughout the marriage, he says he provided extensive support for his wife, including financing her travel abroad and purchasing vehicles for her.
Akwasi Boateng also noted that his ex-wife currently owns her own house, built during their separation, making her pursuit of his property even more surprising.
The gospel musician explained that he formally initiated divorce proceedings at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) after observing public discussions surrounding the late Daddy Lumba’s family dispute. He said the Lumba estate tussle prompted him to officially document his marital status to avoid future misunderstandings.
The case is ongoing.
