Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito is urging his players to approach every Ghana Premier League fixture with the same intensity, warning that no opponent should be underestimated despite the club’s impressive unbeaten run.
Kotoko have gone 10 matches without defeat and still have a game in hand, but Zito insists that such form can quickly vanish if his side lose focus.
Ahead of their midweek trip to face Basake Holy Stars at the AAK II Park, he noted that teams tend to raise their game against Kotoko, motivated by the attention and atmosphere these matches generate.
“This will not deceive us. Every match against Kotoko is a tough match. Whether a team plays well or not, the supporters and the atmosphere make it different. Look at what happened yesterday—ever since we started the league, I don’t think there have been such supporters in the field. Both Samartex and Kotoko supporters were jubilating,” Zito said.
He added that the heightened spotlight on Kotoko fixtures often pushes players to play through discomfort just to feature.
“It is only for Asante Kotoko. Wherever we go, the motivation is that we have to play and win. Even if a player gets sick, he won’t insist on playing unless it’s Kotoko. I have sensitised our team—they must be ready for every game. There is no underrating or underestimating any club,” he stressed.
Kickoff for Wednesday’s encounter is scheduled for 15:00 GMT.
