Concerned youth in the Asante Akyem North Municipality have staged a protest against their Member of Parliament, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, an independent candidate, over alleged attempts to introduce mining activities in the Amantenaman area.

Addressing the media after a press conference, the group expressed strong opposition to what they described as efforts to bring mining into the municipality.

According to the protesters, the push for “properly regulated cooperative mining” is effectively another form of galamsey and would have devastating consequences for local land and water bodies.

They emphasized that Asante Akyem North has never been a mining community and takes pride in its strong agricultural foundations. Introducing mining, they said, would threaten farms, livelihoods, and the overall environmental health of the area.

The youth are calling on relevant stakeholders and authorities to intervene immediately and halt any negotiations aimed at approving mining activities in the municipality.

Speaking to Adom News, the group’s PRO, Agyekum Kwadwo, warned that mining would cause widespread environmental destruction, reinforcing their demand for the immediate withdrawal of any mining-related plans for Asante Akyem North.
