The Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has called on traditional leaders across Ghana to actively support government initiatives aimed at the country’s holistic development.

Speaking as the guest of honour at the silver jubilee celebration and Apayemkese festival of Prof. Okatakyi Amenfi VIII, Paramount Chief of the Asebu Traditional Area, the Okyehene emphasized that no government can successfully drive national progress without the full partnership of chiefs.

He urged traditional rulers to embrace their roles as development agents, noting that their legacies will ultimately be defined not by royal titles, but by the positive impact, leadership, and progress they bring to their communities.

The Okyehene also encouraged chiefs to prioritize education, describing it as a key driver of sustainable development. He condemned environmental degradation caused by illegal mining and called for stronger stewardship to protect Ghana’s natural resources.

In addition, he appealed to government to ensure equitable distribution of development projects across all regions, warning that concentrating projects in only a few areas risks creating imbalances and leaving some communities behind.

Prof. Okatakyi Amenfi VIII urged the government to ban surface mining, arguing that past administrations have failed to curb its devastating effects. He suggested that miners form consortiums to focus on deep or underground mining as a sustainable alternative.

The Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, assured chiefs and residents of the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure. He revealed that several roads in the area have been included in the 2026 budget and are slated for construction next year.
