Former MCE for Suhum, Margaret Darko, has slammed Irene Naa Torshie Addo, former Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), saying she is disgracing herself.
According to Margaret Darko, Naa Torshie’s claims that she did not contribute to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections by failing to release common funds are false.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Madam Darko said:
“If she thinks she can disgrace Dr Bawumia to make people vote against him, she is lying. Dr Bawumia is the one we will vote for to be our flagbearer, and he won’t use her as a running mate either if that’s what she wants.”
Madam Darko criticized Naa Torshie’s handling of the DACF, claiming her greed and selfishness led to mismanagement.
“Even the Common Fund administration that former President Nana Akufo-Addo gave to her, she couldn’t take charge. She treated the administration like the money was hers,” she said.
She further explained that while Naa Torshie claimed to know everything, she failed to disclose conflicts of interest.
“When you were awarding contracts to your family and friends and where your own interest was involved, you never told Bawumia about it. So why blame him?”
Margaret Darko said Naa Torshie decided how the money was distributed to various assemblies.
“Even in Greater Accra and the Eastern Region, how much money was she giving to us? She was the one to determine the money for the various assemblies and who would receive it,” she noted.
She also alleged misuse of funds, blaming Naa Torshie for using assemblies’ money to buy boots, jerseys, footballs, and insecticides, while communities needed boreholes.
“In Suhum, for instance, she awarded contracts, and up to now nothing has happened in the community. Do you think the people there would have a good mind to go and vote for the NPP during the 2024 elections?”
Her comments come after Irene Naa Torshie Addo dismissed allegations that she contributed to the NPP’s defeat.
Speaking to the media, Naa Torshie said it was unfair for party members to accuse her, insisting that she could not disburse the funds because former President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia failed to release them on time.
Madam Darko, however, rejected these claims, saying:
“If Naa Torshie blames Dr Bawumia for not releasing money to various assemblies, then she is lying.”
