Asante Kotoko battled their way back to victory on Wednesday, edging Young Apostles in a tense encounter on Wednesday afternoon.
The Porcupine Warriors were eager to respond after dropping points in their 1–1 draw with Aduana FC last weekend in Kumasi.
Despite Kotoko dominating stretches of the first half, both sides failed to find the back of the net.
The tempo shifted after the restart. Hubert Gyau finally opened the scoring in the 51st minute, only for Young Apostles to hit back almost immediately through Richmond Opoku, who levelled matters just two minutes later.
With the match drifting towards a stalemate, Kotoko were handed a lifeline deep into added time when they won a penalty.
Captain Ndongani Samba Gilbani kept his nerve, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to clinch a dramatic winner.
The victory lifts Kotoko to fourth on the league table with 19 points, preserving their unbeaten start to the season.
Karim Zito’s side now turn their attention to Sunday’s Matchday 11 trip to the Nsenkyire Arena, where they face FC Samartex in a bid to extend their impressive run.
