Gbentiri police abandon post as community demands justice over alleged shooting

-

The police station at Gbentiri in the North East Region has remained closed following sustained pressure from angry youth demanding justice for a young man they say was wrongfully shot and killed on November 5, 2025.

Residents have accused a police officer of fatally shooting Nawutoh Isah during what they describe as an attempt to extort money from him. The community says the officer responsible has not been publicly identified, leaving the bereaved family without clarity or updates.

In an interview with Adom News, residents expressed frustration over what they believe is an attempt to conceal the truth.

They insist that authorities must act swiftly, warning that they may take matters into their own hands if justice continues to be delayed.

Najim Benjamin, spokesperson for the Assemblyman for the Gbentiri Electoral Area, added that communication challenges have worsened tensions.

He criticised the regional police for issuing statements without proper investigation, noting that earlier information shared by the authorities was later found to be inaccurate, with no retraction made.

Residents are calling on the government, security agencies, and other stakeholders to intervene and ensure transparency, accountability, and justice for the deceased.
