The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has condemned a viral video showing a man, believed to be a landlord, physically assaulting his wife at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.
The Ministry described the act as cruel, unacceptable, and a clear violation of her rights.
In a statement, it stressed that no form of abuse is justifiable.
“We strongly condemn this barbaric act in its strongest terms. This act infringes on the victim’s rights, and it is highly punishable by law,” the statement noted.
The statement also indicated that the sector Minister, Agnes Naa MoMo Lartey, has contacted the Ghana Police Service, urging a full investigation to ensure accountability and justice for the victim.
Calling domestic and gender-based violence a national concern, the Ministry encouraged the public to promptly report such incidents. It reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant agencies to ensure perpetrators face legal consequences.
Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant and report suspected abuse cases through the Domestic Violence Call Centre, the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope, or directly to the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey.
According to the CID, two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, were also arrested for allegedly attempting to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the footage.
