The Paramount Chief of Mim in the Ahafo Region, Okofrobuor Nana Dr. Yaw Agyei II, has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the government’s continued delay in granting Mim district status and establishing a university to accelerate development in the area.
Speaking during the second edition of the Mpuntuo Festival, a fundraising event for the construction of university facilities, Nana Dr. Yaw Agyei II said the pursuit of both a district and a university is long overdue.
He rejected claims by the Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, Haruna Mohammed, who stated that the law allows Mim to be considered for district status only in 2030. The chief insisted that Mim deserves immediate attention, stressing that successive governments have failed the community on these critical development demands.
He called on President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize their request and ensure that Mim receives both a district and a university without further delay.
Meanwhile, Armstrong Kusi, founder of 7SM, told journalists that the current size of the Asunafo North Municipality makes it difficult for Mim to get its fair share of development projects.
He noted that for more than 31 years, the chiefs and people of Mim have been advocating for a district and a university, appealing to the President and all relevant authorities to finally address their longstanding concerns.
