Bekwai Church of Christ School Celebrates 25th Anniversary; Joseph Osei Owusu Calls For Increased Investment In TVET

The Bekwai Church of Christ School has marked its 25th anniversary with a strong call for government support to boost Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the country.

Speaking at the celebration held at Asante Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, former Bekwai MP and former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, urged the government to invest more in TVET to enhance trade skills and reduce unemployment.

In an interview with Adom News, Osei Owusu noted that private schools have largely championed technical education in Ghana. He revealed that many craft and trade jobs are dominated by Togolese nationals because they receive proper formal training. According to him, the perception that trade work does not require education has affected the quality, perfection and finishing of work produced locally.

Board Chairman of the Bekwai Church of Christ School, Charles Opoku, explained that the institution has now been in existence for 25 years. He appealed to the government to reduce certain levies imposed on private schools, saying this would enable them to expand their efforts and reduce the pressure on public schools. He also called for support in providing in-service training for private school teachers to enhance teaching and learning.

The Headmaster, Nyarko Dennis, highlighted the church’s commitment to supporting needy children in the community who would otherwise not have the chance to attend school. He said the church offers subsidies to some students through contributions from members to ensure every child has access to education. He advised parents to take their children’s education seriously to secure a better future for them.
