Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that Ghana and Qatar have agreed to fast-track the finalisation of a labour mobility agreement aimed at creating job opportunities for thousands of skilled young Ghanaians.
The Minister is currently on an official visit to Qatar at the invitation of the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani.
According to him, bilateral discussions were productive, focusing on strengthening diplomatic relations, expanding trade, enhancing strategic security cooperation, and advancing collaboration in conflict mediation. He noted that both countries reaffirmed their commitment to a multilateral, rules-based international order anchored on peace and stability.
“We also committed to easing visa requirements to facilitate greater movement of persons and goods, which is expected to boost the existing direct flights between our two nations,” the Minister wrote on Facebook.
He added that Ghana and Qatar have agreed to accelerate work on a labour mobility agreement to open up employment opportunities for skilled Ghanaian youth.
“To foster business partnerships and synergies, we also decided to facilitate a Presidential Ghana-Qatar business forum during President John Mahama’s visit to Qatar next month,” he said.
