We’ve learned a powerful truth; there’s no shortcut to responsible economic management – Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has cautioned that Ghana cannot afford any form of recklessness in the management of public finances, stressing that national progress depends on discipline, transparency, and strategic planning.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, under the theme “Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation,” Dr. Forson underscored the importance of fiscal responsibility.

“Mr. Speaker, we have learned a powerful truth — fiscal discipline is the backbone of national progress. There’s no shortcut to responsible economic management. Never again must we allow recklessness, waste, and indiscipline to define how we handle the people’s money,” he stated.

He reaffirmed government’s commitment to safeguarding public funds, noting that President John Mahama’s administration has prioritised accountability and financial integrity.

“The government has chosen a harder but higher road — the road of reform, renewal, and resilience. We have restored fiscal discipline, brought inflation under control, stabilised the cedi, and rekindled investor confidence,” Dr. Forson said.

He added that the 2026 Budget represents a deliberate “reset” aimed at driving sustainable economic growth, creating jobs, and securing long-term prosperity for all Ghanaians.
