Mahama orders suspension of GAF recruitment exercise after El-Wak stampede

President John Mahama has ordered the immediate suspension of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise following a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium that claimed six lives.

Several others were also injured in the tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning.

The President made the announcement during the launch of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Poultry Initiative in Kumasi on Wednesday, November 12, after visiting some of the victims at the 37 Military Hospital.

Describing the incident as a heartbreaking loss for the nation, Mahama extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

He also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stampede, stressing the need to strengthen safety measures during public recruitment exercises and other national events.
