Justice Gertrude Torkonoo deserves to be heard – Francis-Xavier Sosu

The Member of Parliament for Madina and human rights lawyer, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has called for fairness and due process in the ongoing case involving former Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkonoo.

According to him, Justice Torkonoo is entitled to be heard in court, emphasizing that “justice delayed is justice denied.”

Speaking on the recent tensions between the Majority and Minority caucuses over whether the embattled Chief Justice’s case should be resolved before the vetting of her successor, the Madina MP stressed that the State must ensure she gets her day in court.

Mr. Sosu, however, criticised the Minority for attempting to disrupt the vetting process, arguing that there were more appropriate legal and parliamentary channels through which their concerns could have been addressed.

He further noted that even if the court ultimately rules in favour of Justice Torkonoo, the nomination, vetting, and appointment of her successor would likely make her reinstatement practically impossible.

“The damage would have been done,” Sosu remarked, warning that the situation highlights the need for timely justice and strict adherence to constitutional procedures.
