The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has paid tribute to the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a symbol of courage and a beacon of Ghanaian womanhood.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on Thursday, October 23, 2025, the party expressed deep sadness over her passing, noting that Ghana had lost a national icon whose life’s work advanced women’s empowerment and social progress.

“The late Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings, Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement and Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, embodied the strength and resilience of Ghanaian women, especially in political leadership and socio-economic advocacy,” the statement read.

The NPP praised her tireless efforts in promoting gender equality and improving the welfare of women and children.

It acknowledged her influence in shaping key national reforms, including the Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111), which safeguards inheritance rights for women and children, and her contribution to embedding gender equality in Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

Describing her as “a true trailblazer in women’s emancipation,” the statement said her work continues to inspire generations.

The party further noted that Ghana had lost “a mother and a political pioneer” whose leadership and determination left an indelible mark on the nation.

“The NPP extends its deepest condolences to her family and joins the entire nation in mourning this remarkable woman,” it concluded.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was widely celebrated for her lifelong dedication to empowering women and transforming social policy in Ghana.
