Gomoa Wassa Gyasehene constructs 7 boreholes for 5 communities amid water crisis

The Gyasehene of Gomoa Wassa in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region, Nana Kwesi Essel Okyea-hene, has constructed seven mechanized boreholes to provide safe drinking water for five communities severely affected by the ongoing water crisis in the region.

The beneficiary communities include Gomoa Wassa, Gomoa Nkran, Gomoa Akwakrom, Gomoa Penanko, and Gomoa Nduem — all within the Gomoa West District.

The initiative comes in response to the shutdown of the Ghana Water Company’s Agona Kwanyarko treatment plant after illegal mining activities in the Eastern Region polluted the River Ayensu, leaving more than ten districts in the Central Region without potable water.

Speaking to Adom News after commissioning the boreholes, Nana Kwesi Essel Okyea-hene, who also serves as the Director of Young Executive and Onua Francis Schools, said he was deeply moved by the plight of residents who struggled daily to access clean water.

“I felt the need to act when I saw the suffering of my people. Development is a shared responsibility; we should not always wait for the government. Every Ghanaian should contribute to the progress of their hometown,” he said.

He further urged Ghanaians to dispel fears and superstitions that discourage people from investing in their communities, stressing that development benefits everyone.

The Gomoa West District Chief Executive, Mohammed Alhaji Kassim, commended Nana Kwesi Essel Okyea-hene for his initiative, noting that the Assembly had already planned to drill ten boreholes across the district.

“If a single chief has provided seven already, he truly deserves praise,” the DCE remarked.

Residents of the beneficiary communities expressed their gratitude to the Gyasehene for bringing much-needed relief during this difficult period.
