Ghana head coach Otto Addo has reaffirmed that selection for the Black Stars will be guided solely by performance, not nationality or background.
The Black Stars booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12, sealing their spot in the tournament’s final stage.
In the wake of the qualification, discussions have intensified around the potential inclusion of foreign-born players eligible to represent Ghana, alongside the role of home-based talent in the squad.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Addo emphasized that only those who demonstrate their quality on the pitch will earn a place in his team.
“I don’t think we should look at who is local and who is not,” he said.
“We have to look at performance. We have to look at the best players. The higher the quality of the group, the higher the players push each other,” Addo added.
The Black Stars are set to make their fifth World Cup appearance and will discover their group-stage opponents when the draw is held on December 5, 2025.
