Body of boy, 12, swept away by floodwaters at Kasoa found after 4 days

The body of 12-year-old David, who was swept away by the Okrudu River at Kasoa after a heavy downpour on Wednesday, has been discovered four days after the tragic incident.

The remains were found at Fijai in the Gomoa East District, following an intensive search led by local residents and authorities.

The young boy was carried away by floodwaters at Kasoa American Town in the Awutu Senya East Municipality when his slippers slipped into a nearby gutter while on his way to pick up his siblings from school.

In an attempt to retrieve them, he chased after the slippers into the Okrudu River, where he was overpowered by the strong current and swept away.

The Assemblyman for the Kasoa American Town Electoral Area, Shadrach Boakye Yiadom, confirmed the recovery of the body to Adom News and expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

He urged residents to be cautious during heavy rains and called on municipal authorities to address the issue of open drains and unsafe crossings that often contribute to such tragedies.

“This incident is heartbreaking. We must all take flooding and drainage issues seriously to prevent further loss of life,” Mr. Yiadom said.

The tragic discovery has left the Kasoa community in mourning as family and residents come to terms with the loss of the young boy.
