2026 WCQ: Jordan Ayew lauds Ghanaian fans after Black Stars’ 5-0 win over CAR

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed heartfelt appreciation to Ghanaians for their unwavering support following the team’s resounding 5–0 victory over the Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday.

The Leicester City forward, who contributed both a goal and an assist, described the triumph as a demonstration of the squad’s renewed determination to rebound after missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking exclusively to Adom FM’s Sports Page 2, Ayew acknowledged the disappointment fans felt after the AFCON setback and urged continued unity and belief in the national team.

“I want to thank Ghanaians for their support and patience. Not qualifying for the AFCON was a disaster for everyone, so obviously this is the time for us to come back strong. I hope on Sunday they will come to the stadium and celebrate with us,” he said.

Ayew’s leadership both on and off the pitch was evident as the Black Stars delivered one of their most commanding performances in recent memory, bringing them within striking distance of a World Cup berth.

Ghana will host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

A win in that match will secure the Black Stars’ place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
