The Tema Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of two men involved in a violent robbery and rape incident that took place along the Apollonia–Afienya road on September 27, 2025.
In a statement released on Tuesday, October 7, police said the attack targeted a 19-year-old hairdresser who had hired one of the suspects, Nicholas Tetteh, as a commercial motor rider to transport her to Afienya.
Along the way, Tetteh reportedly conspired with two others, including Joseph Tetteh, to ambush the young woman.
“Investigations revealed that the victim was dragged into a nearby bush, where she was sexually assaulted by two of the suspects. They also took her iPhone XR and handbag containing GHC 150.00,” the police stated.
The victim later reported the incident to the Zenu–Atadeka District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), where she received medical care and gave her statement to investigators.
Following swift police work, the suspects were arrested and charged with robbery and rape. They were subsequently arraigned before the Gbetsile Circuit Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Eleanor Kakra Barns Botchway.
“They pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and were each sentenced to fifteen (15) years imprisonment in hard labour,” the statement confirmed.
According to the police, the rape charge remains under review and will proceed once advice is received from the Attorney-General’s Office.
ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police, reaffirmed the service’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring public safety.
“We assure the public of our continued efforts to ensure justice for the victim and maintain public safety,” she said.
The Command encouraged community members to remain vigilant and promptly report any criminal activity to aid ongoing efforts to protect residents within the region.
