The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi South in the Ahafo Region, Benjamin Assabil Donkor, has praised the government’s National Sanitation Day initiative, describing it as a major contributor to improved hygiene and environmental cleanliness in the district.
Speaking during a clean-up exercise in Hwidiem, the district capital, Mr. Donkor told Adom News that the programme, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month, has transformed residents’ attitudes toward waste disposal and cleanliness.
He explained that the initiative has significantly reduced indiscriminate littering in Hwidiem and surrounding communities, noting that continuous public sensitization has helped residents appreciate the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
“As DCE, and in line with the President’s directive to ensure proper sanitation across the country, I am determined to strengthen ongoing efforts to sustain this progress,” he said.
The District Environmental Health Analyst for Asutifi South, Yaw Adusei, also stated that strict monitoring measures are being implemented to ensure compliance with sanitation regulations.
He cautioned residents against littering or dumping refuse in gutters, warning that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.
“The Assembly will not tolerate sanitation offences. Everyone must play their part to keep the district clean,” Mr. Adusei stressed.
