Black Starlets coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has insisted that Ghana’s U-17 side was the superior team, despite falling to Ivory Coast in the final of the 2025 WAFU B U-17 Championship.
Ghana’s campaign began with a setback, losing 3-0 to hosts Ivory Coast in their second group match. However, the Black Starlets bounced back to beat Niger before defeating Nigeria to secure a spot in the tournament final.
The championship decider ended goalless after regulation time, but Ghana ultimately fell 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
Speaking to Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Narteh Ogum praised his team’s performance, emphasising that his side had effectively neutralised Ivory Coast’s key threats.
“We outplayed Ivory Coast, and they did not have a plan B because we were determined not to lose in the final,” the former Asante Kotoko gaffer said.
“We planned very well ahead of the game to eliminate most of their dangerous players, and our game plan worked to perfection, but unfortunately, we lost on penalty shootouts,” he added.
Despite the heartbreak, Ghana has secured qualification for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to be held in Morocco later this year.
