The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) is set to construct a 24-unit ultra-modern classroom block to enhance education and reduce congestion in classrooms within the municipality.
This was revealed when the Obuasi Municipal Education Directorate cut sod for the commencement of the project in the Ashanti Region.
In an interview with Adom News after the ceremony, Edmund Oduro Adjei, Senior Manager of Sustainability, said the project has become necessary due to the increasing number of schoolchildren and the limited availability of educational infrastructure.
He explained that the new 24-unit classroom block will feature an ICT centre, sick bay, computer laboratory, canteen, and other facilities to support effective teaching and learning. The project, estimated at GH₵20 million, is expected to be completed by December 2026.
The Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, George Alfred Koomson, noted that many existing school buildings in the area are old and weak, necessitating renovation and reconstruction.
He added that the new facility would not only help decongest classrooms but also meet the current curriculum and standards for effective teaching and learning.
