The Black Stars of Ghana face a potential setback ahead of the decisive final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, as striker Iñaki Williams is expected to miss the upcoming fixtures due to injury.
The 28-year-old forward was included in Otto Addo’s 24-man squad for the crucial encounters against the Central African Republic and Comoros later this month.
However, his participation is now in doubt after sustaining an injury during Athletic Club’s 2-1 La Liga victory over RCD Mallorca on Saturday at the San Mamés Stadium.
Williams had just ended his goal drought with a fine finish in that match but was forced off in the 53rd minute, replaced by his younger brother, Nico Williams, after picking up the knock.
Athletic Club manager Ernesto Valverde confirmed the injury but expressed uncertainty about the striker’s availability for national duty.
“I don’t know, but I imagine he [Inaki Williams] won’t go,” Valverde said.
“I don’t know if they will have to do any tests or what the protocol is, but things are as they are.”
The Black Stars are expected to begin camp in Casablanca on Sunday, October 5, as they ramp up preparations for their clash with the Central African Republic on Wednesday, October 8, at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknès.
Otto Addo’s men will then return home to host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12.
Ghana need at least four points from these two matches to book their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup — which would mark the country’s fifth appearance at the global showpiece.
