The North East Regional Police Command has begun investigations into a deadly armed attack on two Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers stationed at the Gbintri Inland checkpoint.
The incident, which occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, resulted in the death of one officer and left another with gunshot wounds.
According to a statement issued by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabik Anmain, the assailants, who remain unidentified, opened fire on the officers during the attack.
Both victims were struck by bullets, with one tragically succumbing to his injuries while the other was taken to the hospital for urgent treatment.
The attackers reportedly fled the scene on a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers. However, police recovered a service rifle that had been in use at the checkpoint.
The Command described the assault as a “heinous crime” and assured the public that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend those responsible.
It further appealed to residents to provide any credible information that could help track down the perpetrators and support the ongoing investigations.
