Otto Addo visits injured Black Stars defender Tariq Lamptey

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has paid a visit to Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey, who is recovering from a serious injury setback.

The Fiorentina right-back recently sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury shortly after the September international break. He has since undergone surgery and is expected to be sidelined for several months.

The setback rules Lamptey out of Ghana’s decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against the Central African Republic and Comoros later this month.

His recovery period, estimated at six months, also raises doubts about his availability for the tournament itself should the Black Stars secure qualification.

Lamptey, 25, moved to Fiorentina in the summer in pursuit of a fresh chapter in his career after a frustrating run of injuries during his time in England.

Unfortunately, his debut season in Serie A has been cut short by the long-term layoff.

Coach Addo’s visit was seen as a gesture of support, underlining his commitment to the well-being of his players both on and off the pitch.

Ghana, meanwhile, require just four points from their final two qualifying fixtures to seal a spot at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
