2026 WCQ: Agyemang Badu urges focus ahead of CAR, Comoros games, not Otto Addo’s future

Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has urged patience and focus ahead of the Black Stars’ final round of 2026 World Cup qualifiers, cautioning against premature speculation over head coach Otto Addo’s future.

Addo, 49, has faced heightened scrutiny following inconsistent performances by the national team, prompting Sports Minister Kofi Adams to voice concerns about the coach’s tenure.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Agyemang Badu stressed that Addo should be given the opportunity to complete his current assignment before discussions about his future take centre stage.

“I’m not the one who appointed him, but every work each person is doing, they want to succeed. The coach, too, wants to succeed in his work with the Black Stars,” he said.

“I don’t think the stats show that he has done badly. There is more room for improvement. Let’s wait and play the two matches. There’s more time to deliberate on his future after,” he added.

Ghana currently tops Group I with 19 points and needs just four more to confirm its place at the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

The Black Stars will travel to face the Central African Republic at Stade d’Honneur de Meknes on Wednesday, October 8, before returning home to host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 12 in their final group fixture.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo has announced a 24-man squad for the upcoming games.

A fifth World Cup appearance remains well within Ghana’s reach.
