Fire guts warehouse in Adabraka

A fierce blaze that tore through the Budget Deco warehouse near the Graphic Press area in Adabraka, Accra, has been successfully contained and extinguished by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

According to GNFS, the distress call came in at 4:12 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025. The first fire truck from the Accra City Fire Station arrived just seven minutes later to find the flames already raging at an advanced stage.

Firefighters worked tirelessly for more than seven hours, with the fire finally brought under control at 8:42 p.m. and completely extinguished by 11:52 p.m. after extensive operations.

In total, six additional fire appliances, a turntable ladder, a GNFS water tanker, and two private water tankers were deployed to contain the blaze. Items destroyed in the inferno included curtains, floor carpets, furniture, flowers, and upholstery, while parts of the warehouse structure collapsed due to the intensity of the heat.

Swift intervention by the firefighting teams prevented the flames from spreading to a nearby rice warehouse, a hotel, and the DTRT textile and clothing facility.

One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation during the operation and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Senior officers, including the Deputy Director of Operations, ACFO II Osmond Anum, and Greater Accra Regional Commander, ACFO II Rashid Nisawu, provided operational leadership throughout the exercise.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but GNFS has expressed appreciation to all partner agencies whose collaboration helped bring the situation under control.
