Gov’t to link air, rail, road and water transport systems – Minister

Minister for Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari

Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nipke, has announced government’s plans to integrate Ghana’s four major modes of transport to make travel more convenient and seamless for citizens.

In an interview with Citi FM, Mr. Nipke said the government’s vision is to establish a connected system that enables travellers to easily switch between air, rail, road, and inland water transport.

“Our vision is how we can integrate the four modes of transport to make travel easier or seamless for people. When you take the aviation sector, although people say it is expensive, it is the fastest, depending on where you want to go and what you want to do,” he said.

He further noted that beyond aviation, efforts are being made to strengthen other modes, especially rail and inland water transport, to complement the existing road network.

“We are looking at how to improve on the rest of the modes of transport, railway, and also the inland water transport services. That will integrate the transport system, so you can use one to a point and continue with the other options,” the minister explained.

He emphasized that the ultimate aim is to enhance mobility, cut down travel times, and improve accessibility nationwide by maximizing the advantages of each transport mode.
