The Minority on Parliament’s Communication Committee has accused the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, of deceiving Ghanaians over his standoff with pay-TV operator DStv.
Ranking Member Matthew Nyindam told Adom News that the Minister misled the public by promising a 30% reduction in subscription fees, only to later accept DStv’s decision to repackage its services.
“Sam George told Ghanaians that DStv subscribers in Ghana were paying more than in other countries and demanded a 30% reduction. But in the end, he failed and settled for a repackaging. That is deception,” Mr. Nyindam stressed, describing the Minister’s posture as “arrogant” and “unbecoming of a public officeholder.”
He also questioned a directive allegedly issued by the Minister to the National Communications Authority (NCA) to fine DStv GH₵10,000 if it refused to reduce prices, demanding clarity on whether the sanction was enforced.
Mr. Nyindam insisted that in other countries, such conduct would have cost the Minister his job.
He urged President John Dramani Mahama to caution Mr. George, stressing that the office “is not for Sam George, but for the service of the nation.”
