Karim Zito backs Albert Amoah for Black Stars call-up

Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has thrown his weight behind striker Albert Amoah, insisting the in-form forward deserves a place in the Black Stars.

Amoah, who joined the Porcupine Warriors from Great Olympics two seasons ago, has become an integral part of the squad.

His recent performances in the CAF Confederation Cup have further underlined his importance, notably scoring twice in Kotoko’s thrilling 4-3 first-leg victory over Nigeria’s Kwara United at the Accra Sports Stadium. Kotoko later sealed qualification with a 1-0 win in the return leg, advancing 5-3 on aggregate.

In an interview, Zito praised Amoah’s consistency, particularly in matches witnessed by high-ranking football officials.

“Albert Amoah has proven that he deserves a place in the Black Stars. He delivered an outstanding performance in front of the coaches, the GFA President, and his Executive Council. If he earns a call-up, there will be little room for objection,” Zito said.

The coach also highlighted Amoah’s influence in the away fixture against Kwara United, even though he failed to get on the scoresheet.

“The importance of goal-scoring in every club is very high. Even though he did not score in Nigeria, he was unsettling defenders and creating chances for his teammates,” Zito explained.

The 25-year-old striker will look to continue his fine run when Kotoko face Hearts of Lions in their Matchday 4 clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium on October 6.
