A 32-year-old motorbike rider sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh after an attempted robbery at Bedzeme-Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality on the night of Monday, September 22.
The victim, Emmanuel Akakpo, reported the incident to the Dzodze Police. He explained that he had been hired by a woman from the White Dove Hotel, Dzodze, to Akanu Old Road.
On his return, near Bubune Junction close to the ECG payment office, two unidentified young men armed with a locally manufactured single-barrel gun blocked his path and demanded his motorbike.
When he attempted to speed off, the assailants opened fire, injuring him in the thigh.
Despite his injuries, Akakpo managed to disable his unregistered Sanya motorbike using its remote-controlled lock, preventing the attackers from escaping with it. The suspects then fled into a nearby bush.
Residents who heard his cries for help rushed to the scene and took him to the Sabu-Dav Clinic, where he received first aid. He was later referred to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Dzodze for further treatment, including a scan.
Police have since issued a medical report form to the victim and say investigations are ongoing to track down the suspects.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
