Bibiani GoldStars interim coach Yaw Amankwah has expressed his disappointment following his side’s 5-0 defeat to Algerian side JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
The Ghanaian champions had lost the first leg 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving them with a daunting task in the return leg. In Tizi Ouzou on Sunday, Kabylie dominated once more, sealing a 7-0 aggregate victory.
Speaking after the match, Amankwah acknowledged the quality of the opposition while admitting the result was painful.
“I will congratulate JS Kabylie for the win. They fought very well throughout the game, but the scoreline is painful,” he said.
“We didn’t expect such a scoreline from the game, but I think JS Kabylie did well,” he added.
With their continental campaign ended, GoldStars will now shift focus to domestic football. The Miners are set to face newly-promoted Swedru All Blacks in the Ghana Premier League this weekend.
