Ketu South MCE urges tourism players to focus on country’s attractions

The Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Nicholas Worclachie, has called on stakeholders in the tourism industry to critically assess and develop tourist attractions across the country.

According to Mr. Worclachie, tourists play a key role in shaping investors’ perceptions of a nation’s culture, traditions, security, and overall economic potential. “Research shows that the first set of information about a country is often shared by tourists, which makes it essential to give serious attention to our attractions,” he explained.

The call came during a working visit by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, to sites in the southern Volta Region as part of this year’s World Tourism Day celebrations. The tour, which included the Minister’s deputy, chief directors of the ministry, the MCE, other industry stakeholders, and Senior High School students, aimed to energise Ghana’s tourism ecosystem.

The team visited Fort Prinzenstein in Keta, a historic site linked to the transatlantic slave trade, before moving on to Avu Lagoon to experience the natural scenery and observe the local production of Akpeteshie from sugarcane. The tour concluded at the Hedzranawo Slavery Museum in Ketu South Municipality.

Speaking to the media after the tour, Minister Gomashie stressed the urgent need to improve road infrastructure to tourist sites and called for stronger private-sector partnerships to boost tourism development.

Reiterating his earlier point, MCE Nicholas Worclachie urged industry players to capitalise on Ghana’s tourism potential, noting that tourists are critical in communicating the country’s economic opportunities to prospective investors.
