Final funeral rites for DJ Awana underway

The final funeral rite of veteran Ghanaian disc jockey and Multimedia Group staff member, Samuel Tei Mensah Nartey, popularly known as DJ Awana, is being held today, Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Family, colleagues, and well-wishers have gathered at the Aggrey Road School Park in Tema Community 2 to pay their last respects.

He was laid in state from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., followed by a burial service at the same venue. Interment will take place at the Prampram Cemetery.

In a tribute read by the Multimedia Group Ltd., DJ Awana was remembered for making many gospel songs a hit.

Sax Borsah, also described him as a true gem of the industry, also performed a saxophone eulogy in his honour.

DJ Awana, aged 47, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the 37 Military Hospital after a short illness.

He began his media career over two decades ago with Adom FM in Tema, where he gained prominence for his soft-spoken nature, excellent song choices, and impact on Ghana’s media and live event space.

He is survived by three children: Beatrice Nartey, El-Nathan Duodu Nartey, and Nelson Nartey.
