Hearts of Oak edge Eleven Wonders to go top of Ghana Premier League

Accra Hearts of Oak extended their fine start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Eleven Wonders on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A first-half strike from Enoch Asubonteng proved the difference, sending the Phobians to the summit of the league table while maintaining their flawless defensive record after three matches.

Hearts began the encounter on the front foot, repeatedly testing goalkeeper Kwame Baah before their pressure paid off in the 18th minute.

Asubonteng reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area, firing home what turned out to be the decisive goal.

The hosts suffered a setback when Ali Mohammed was stretchered off and replaced by Baba Adamu, but they stayed composed despite a spirited response from Wonders, who enjoyed long spells of possession and neat passing without seriously threatening the Hearts’ backline.

After the interval, Hearts pressed for a second goal but were held off by a stubborn Wonders defense.

The visitors thought they had a lifeline late in the game when Asamoah went down under a challenge from Baba Adamu in the box, but their penalty appeals were dismissed by the referee in the 86th minute.

Despite late pressure, Hearts stood firm to claim all three points. For Eleven Wonders, the defeat marked a third straight loss on their return to the top flight, despite a more encouraging performance in Accra.

Next up, Hearts of Oak travel to Bechem United in Matchday 4, while Eleven Wonders will seek their first win of the campaign when they host Young Apostles.
