Former Presidential Staffer in the NPP administration, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has accused sections of the media of double standards in their coverage of the illegal mining activities.
He argues the fight against illegal mining requires consistency from all stakeholders, particularly the media, whose watchdog role is critical in ensuring accountability.
“Some journalists spoke against galamsey under Akufo-Addo. Today, they are quiet under Mahama. That is why I have intensified my fight,” he stated.
Speaking to Nana Kwadwo Jantuah on Nhyira Fm’s morning show, he stated that he is actively compiling evidence on galamsey operations to back his claims.
He says his concern is about ensuring transparency in the government’s dealings with miners.
“I am gathering the evidence as requested. I will submit it to the government for action,” he said. “I am not asking the government to end galamsey in four months. My concern is their gold deals with illegal miners and accountability to their promises.”
Dennis dismissed assertions that his campaign against galamsey is politically-tainted.
