Black Stars must secure 2026 World Cup spot – Alidu Seidu

Stade Rennais defender Alidu Seidu has stressed the importance of Ghana qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing it as crucial for restoring national pride.

The Black Stars currently top Group I of the African qualifiers with 19 points after eight matches. Otto Addo’s men need just one win from their final two games in October—against the Central African Republic and Comoros—to secure their ticket to the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Seidu, who has regained full fitness after a long injury layoff, believes qualification has become even more critical following Ghana’s failure to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I think that’s the best way to appeal to Ghanaians [qualifying for the World Cup], and it’s very, very important for Ghana to qualify because as a big nation you have to always qualify for the World Cup,” he told Flashscore.

“We did not qualify for AFCON 2025, but we have a very good team, and we have to qualify for this World Cup,” he added.

Ghana will face the Central African Republic at the El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida, Morocco, before returning home to host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium in their final qualifier.
