Lead Convener of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi, has warned that citizens will be compelled to take action against the government if it fails to decisively tackle illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Hosi lamented the destruction of water bodies and the threat galamsey poses to the future of millions of Ghanaians.
He cautioned that while some elites engaged in the practice could afford to shield their families from the consequences, ordinary citizens would be left to suffer.
“If you have the finances to import water for your family, what about the masses who can’t? Mining is not a crime, but it must be done the right way. Many of those involved in illegal mining are actually part of the elite. When something bad happens in this country, they will fly their families abroad,” he said.
Mr. Hosi urged Ghanaians to demand accountability from politicians rather than glorify them.
“Ghanaians must begin to demand accountability from politicians and stop worshipping them. They are harming us. If the government doesn’t organise itself and act decisively, we, the citizens, will rise and force them to end galamsey,” he warned.
He further stressed that the fight against illegal mining should not be politicised but viewed as a national survival issue.
“This is not about a particular party; it’s about all Ghanaians. We need to unite and ensure the government fulfils its responsibilities. Slowly, we are losing all our water bodies to galamsey. We are struggling, and we must fight for our future,” Mr. Hosi added.
