Oti Region farmers receive 100 water pumping machines

To boost food security and agricultural productivity in the Oti Region, Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong has distributed 100 water pumping machines to farmers across all nine districts and municipalities.

The initiative is designed to provide essential irrigation support, enabling farmers to cultivate a wider variety of crops and increase yields. Targeted crops include tomatoes, okra, cabbage, and carrots, all vital to strengthening Ghana’s food supply.

During the handover ceremony, Minister Gyapong emphasised the importance of responsible management of the equipment. He urged farmers, cooperatives, and local authorities to use the machines effectively to maximize agricultural output, ensuring the region fully benefits from the investment.

“The government remains committed to supporting our farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture. I personally understand the challenges of farming and want to see our farmers succeed,” he said.

Prosper Addo, Municipal Chief Executive for Krachi West, commended the efforts of the Minister of Agriculture and the Oti Regional Minister, pledging that Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) would actively supervise the proper use of the machines by cooperative groups. He also highlighted the Oti River as a key resource that can further boost agricultural production and national food supply.

This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to empowering farmers and fostering sustainable agricultural practices across the Oti Region.
