Osei Adutwum pledges to prioritize education in 2028 flagbearer bid

Former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has vowed to place education at the center of his leadership agenda if elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and subsequently President of Ghana in 2028.

Launching his campaign in Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Adutwum described education as the most powerful tool for national transformation and sustainable development.

“Education remains the most effective tool for transforming the country and positioning it for long-term growth and development,” he told party members.

He emphasized the importance of quality and accessible education, highlighting that empowering young people is crucial for enhancing Ghana’s global competitiveness. Dr. Adutwum also stressed that accountability is vital for effective governance.

“Accountability is the key to achieving better performance in governance, and so leaders must remain vigilant and attentive. Without such oversight, those entrusted to support their vision may end up being the very source of disappointment,” he cautioned.

Two days after appearing before the NPP vetting committee, Dr. Adutwum has embarked on a “Hope Tour” across the Ashanti Region to engage party delegates ahead of the presidential primaries.

The NPP’s flagbearer contest, scheduled for January 31, 2026, is expected to feature a competitive race, with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, and Dr. Adutwum vying for the top spot.
