Asante Kotoko players stand to receive a special bonus if they qualify for the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stage, the club’s Director of Communications, Sarfo Duku, has revealed.
The Porcupine Warriors hold a slim advantage after a 4-3 first-leg win over Nigerian side Kwara United at the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday.
They will travel to Nigeria on Friday for the return leg on Sunday at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, serving as a temporary home venue for the Ilorin-based team.
Speaking to Nhyira FM, Sarfo Duku said: “There is always a winning bonus, even in the Ghana Premier League, but qualifying from the preliminary stage will add a significant amount of money.”
Progress from the preliminary round would set up a second-round clash with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.
Duku expressed confidence in the team’s chances, noting: “Asante Kotoko is ahead of Kwara United on any platform, so they should be able to account for them. The good news is that the match will be played on neutral ground, which is a significant advantage for us. I assure all Kotoko fans that on Sunday, after the game, Kotoko will be eligible for the next stage.”
