Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has hinted that Asante Kotoko could return to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for their CAF Confederation Cup matches if they progress to the next stage of the competition.
The Porcupine Warriors have been forced to host their continental fixtures at the Accra Sports Stadium after the Baba Yara pitch was declared unfit for international games.
Kotoko kicked off their campaign with a narrow 4-3 win over Nigeria’s Kwara United in the first leg of the preliminary round on Sunday.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Mr Ampofo Ankrah revealed that restoration works are ongoing to bring the Kumasi venue up to CAF standards.
“It is possible Asante Kotoko might return to play their CAF Confederation Cup games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium if they qualify for the next round,” he said.
“We have been working to ensure we get it in a good state. That is why we have instructed that the Rapaholic event must not be hosted on the pitch,” he added.
Kotoko will travel to Abuja for the decisive second leg against Kwara United on Sunday, September 28, at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium. The winner will advance to face Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the subsequent round.
